Absence of god, not the case. Very strong in Christ. God may have my family in this situation for a reason. I know that. Malachi 3 and 4 teaches that. Tithing isn't the only path to prosperity. As in malichi 4: 4 , followed as well. I pray & worship the lord and I teach my kids his ways. My husband is also in the ministry. not Absents in the lord, without him I know I would be in worse mentally and spiritual. Please when you answer I am not asking for rude remarks and I know that there are people worse off than I am. I just wanted to hear from others so that I can state their case as well as mine. I know the lord placed me in this. the Q&A allowed me to see another view and outlet on how other people feel about issue of the poor. If others care or have family or friends the same way. Call it my calling. maybe this is his way for me. I email many outlets about this issue, government, news and even oprah, (who responded) my actions are not a waist. if the income amount offend i'm sorry.

I believe anything under $20K is low-income, and anything below $30K is in a gray area of low-income or moderate-income, depending on the cost of living in your area. The important thing to consider in regards to poverty level is, can you pay the bills: rent, food, electricity, water, and anything else that is essential for life. (Computers, TV, and cable does NOT count as essential to life!) Anything that is LESS than this amount to sustain yourself or your family is low-income!
Anything above what is absolutely essential, when you have enough money to buy non-essential stuff and/or save extra money, is a moderate income level.... (or high income if you have to hire people to handle your money for you!)
Well, that's how I personally distinguish it, but I know states have specific guidelines for what the poverty level is, and it differs per state. I personally think the minimum wage should reflect what it takes to survive, so that people who are working don't have to go on welfare.

To me, low income is less than $30,000 per year per family member ... 2 people in the family = $60,000, 3 people = $90,000, etc.
I know that probably seems high, but here in SoCal, it's almost impossible to live on even that much.
When my husband was still in the military 12 years ago, his annual income was $15,000 which was considered to be below the poverty level. Even upper-level enlisted members are poor enough to qualify for welfare and food stamps. Quite a "thank you" to our soldiers don't you think?
Someone who works minimum wage all year ($6.75 in CA) only earns about $14,000, so I'd say that $19k per year for a family of 5 (anywhere) is very low.

19,000 between a house of 5 is low income. I'm 19 and I make about 23 grand a year, which isn't very good. So for 5 people to be bringing in 19,000 is low indeed.

low income is a mind over matter thing if you dont mind it dont matter. I use to wait around for a welfare check every month until i got up off my a-- and got a job when i got my first pay check i could not decide what to do with it first. So I might not be making $40,000 a year but i live well enough

I don't mean to belittle your problems. But compared to the rest of the world you are living like kings. Over here the cost of living is higher and minimum wage is 1,500,00 US P/A. I ready your last question and understand that you are frustrated. I guess what I am trying to say is that you should look at the bright side and appreciate how fortunate you are.

19,000 would be considered low income for a family of 5
it depends entirely on the agency and how large the family is on what they consider low.
my family made 30,000 for a family of 4 and it was low enough to get federal grants for college.

low income: not having enough to cover the basic necessities: food, health, shelter...so you have to do without one or more of them. amount depends on where you live and how many are in the immediate family.

To me, low income is when a person who works cannot afford to pay for the basic necessities in life. (Rent, apartment insurance, utilities, car insurance, food, etc)
