When traveling out of the country, what things should I copy and take with me?

I believe that Passports, IDs, Social Security card, and credit cards are the only things. Is there anything else that I should copy that I am not thinking about?

On the passport, I was told to leave a copy at home, is this correct? should I also leave a copy of my I.D.

Also, with the passport as far as I can tell, all I need to do is sign the page opposite of my picture and then fill out the personal and emergency information, page 7 for me. Is there anything else I need to fill out?

Thanks

First, remember that you should leave many things at home. If you carry a large purse or wallet, go through it and leave most of it at home. Here's what you need...

Passport and drivers license
1 or 2 Credit Cards, ATM Cards
$300 in US Currency...(or whatever you're willing to lose)

That is all. Leave everything else at home. It won't be needed.

That's really about it. Don't risk taking old friends photos, phone numbers, business cards, etc., with you over there...especially if you're going to Rome, Florence, Paris, Spain...more succeptable to pickpockets...basically slim down your documents to the bare necessities.

Definitely photocopy everything you take twice. Leave one copy with friends/family and one copy goes with you and stays packed with you away from your originals.

Also, write down important numbers...credit card intl. collect numbers, etc. and other phone numbers that you may need to contact banks, relatives, etc.

Sounds like your passport is filled out properly...just always remember, you can forget your camera, your underwear, your bread, cheese and wine, BUT DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT!

Have a great time!

P.S: Never loop backpack, bag, purse over the back of your chair. Always...ALWAYS keep it in FRONT of you and if you're sitting, wrap it around your feet. or something...

Also make a copy of any insurance cards regarding medical (for those policies that also pay internationally-some do, some don't),
and car insurance policy if you plan on renting a car.
Some insurance policies also cover accidents outside the U.S. (if that is where you currently reside).
You can leave a copy at home, but there isn't a need. Better safe than sorry -you can never have too many copies of anything.A copy of your driver's license if you're going to drive, as well as using it as an ID.

Also, when you sign your passport, ONLY do it in PENCIL.
Since you have your passport for ten years (U.S.A.), your address and emergency contact information could easily change. I've had to erase and re-write several times.

Have fun!
