When I did that, it caused the car to slow down quickly and I went through the wind shield. Luckily I was wearing my space suit. I think it may have been beacuse I have halogen head lights. Being a quick thinker, I fired by backpack ion drive and accelerated faster than light, traveled back in time, and warned myself not to turn the lights on.

The lights will come on.
But will you be able to see the lights, I am not sure. Maybe because the lights are travelling at the speed of light, the light will not get beyond the headlight glass, but on the other hand, maybe the light will be projected ahead because the source is travelling at the speed of light.
But that means the light from the headlight would have to travel faster than the speed of light.

Maybe you would travel at twice the speed of light, or maybe 3 times as there are 2 headlights but then again the police would have stopped you for driving with no lights (if they could catcth you)

First of all you cant go at the speed of light. Period.

If you were traveling at say 0.99999999 times the speed of light, and you turn on the headlights.....

An observer from outside, besides marveling at your machine, will measure the speed of light to be 299,792,458 m/s. and you driving almost right by it.

This observer might think that you are watching the light you turned on move slowly away from you, but that is not true. You from inside the car will measure the speed of light to be exactly the same, 299,792,458 m/s

That is because for you, traveling so fast, time will be moving at a sloooooower pace. Even though you feel normal, the observer outside will see you move in slow-motion. So slow, that the speed you measure for the lights you turned on, will be the same as if you were standing still or at any speed. That is why we say the speed of light is constant.

Funnilly enough, it would be working completely normal, except, since you're travelling at the speed of light, if you were to look into the headlights, you would not see any light from them at all, even though the electricity would still be supplied and they would actually be on. This is since the light cannot reach your eyes fast enough as you are already travelling at its' speed, so you would see no light.

The headlights will turn on without problem.

As to the photons, according to the theory of special relativity, if your car is travelling in a vacuum then they will reach the observer (absorber) instantly since the absorption is instantaneous to the moment of release, from the lights. But since photons are travelling at the speed of light as you are, they will reach the observer as you will. So the photons will not be helping you in seeing ahead.

Photons will not dissipate until they hit matter, so as long as your lights are on but not collision occurs, the photons should keep on accumulating at the very edge of your light going at the same speed you are. This accumulation should not create a problem since photons have no mass and since in a vacuum photons have no energy state (again based on Special Relativity) then there is no problem of too-much energy either.

Ellerdm is right.

According to Einstein (That brilliant scientist with the spiky hair), Nothing can travel at the speed of light except light itself.

As you approach the speed of light, 4 things happen:
1) You would likely start to see 'future Echoes' - Events occuring before they happen.
2) Time for you would slow down
3) From an onlooker, you would start to appear thinner
4) Your hat would blow off if you were wearing one.

Hypothetically, if you did travel at this speed of 5,000 km/h ort thereabouts, you would see the lights coming on before you acctually turn them on. You would be so freaked out that you would slam the brakes, create on MASSIVE skidburn mark in the road, and the relativity snapback would cause your brain to explode.

When you're travelling at the speed of light, your car is chunging into light itself, according to Einstein's: E=mc2, what simply means that enything what has a weight (m), travelling at the speed of light (c) is the energy (E). So, If you were travelling in a car at the speed of light there wouldn't be any headlights to turn on.

i challenge anyone to prove the solar system is not already travelling at the speed of light in uniform motion along with the rest of the universe

to answer the question the photons stream away from you at the speed of light and for an observer who sees you travel at the speed of light the photons move just infront of the lights forever or until you slow down

also the time dilation effect is a consequence of the speed of light being the same for all observers in relative motion and not the other way round-if i see you travelling at the speed of light and you look back, there is no way you can tell wether you just flew by me at the speed of light or i just flew by you, we can only tell wether we are in a state of acceleration or not but never if we are at rest or in uniform motion

#1 you cant
#2 the lights would not shine foreward
#3 you would slow down because you are already using all the energy in the universe to go that fast and turning on the headlights is putting a drag on the alternator that takes power from the engine

Than there is the same thing that are running as fast as you forward. I promise that u can not see it.
I`m sorry before, but while running in that a great speed, U will CAN NOT move even your finger for 1 mm.
