Go to your local Fire Station and ask what they use to clean the road after an accident.
Here in Australia we use a product made from saw dust and kitty litter called Spilsorb.
If you ask real nice, they might even give you some.

Gasoline as well as a lot of other chemicals will create weak areas in the asphalt and it will prematurely crack and lift in chunks. Cat litter as I saw in another answer is you best best. I have been there and done that just as described with great success.

use kitty litter it absorbs the oil and transmission stains from the asphalt & concrete

We put acid on the stains in our garage and it worked great. Just go to NAPA or any auto store and ask for the acid that removes oil and stains.

yes you can use cat litter poor over the area and let sit for 3 min's then take your foot and grind the litter in to a fine powder while still over the area then sweep up!
