Try to keep the plants away from the pump, they''ll clog it up
also try to keep the sludge vacuumed out, the sludge will ruin
your pump in no time
I keep my pump elevated on a flower pot so that it doesn't sit
directly on the floor of the pond
Try to clean your pond out every spring and fall to reduce the amout of sludge

the water is clear because the filter is working, io dont know whaty a water feature pump is but you say birds drinkf orm it so im assuming its outside, well if its outside and animals drink from it they probably mvoe dirt and stuff into it, leaves and grass can be blown by the wind, it sucks to clean it everyday but obviously you filter is workgin properly

Maybe the pump is too strong and the birds are being sucked up? Have you noticed a reduction of birds in your garden recently?

most definitely..try putting wire mess on the outside of the take in holes in the base of the fountain..this will allow water to reach the pump but keep the larger trash away from it.

Sounds to me like it's doing it job! If the water is clear, great!
