I am afraid you didnt give much information like where you are now that youare thinking of importing things into uk from as it varies. At the moment in UK there is a water shortage. believe it or not. yeah yeah I know we are surrounded with water but the water companies are not bothered about investing some money to bring all the sea water and put into good use. So maybe you want to start from there.

You can also look at "personal franchising" or network marketing. It is where the things are happening at the moment.

well if you dont have much start up capital... and you want to work for yourself..then try to find something that is in Demand... and that demand is growing....

I looked at franchising for a month before finding this.....

low start up costs.... in demand products.... your own business with on-going free support... and its Unique.... so, cant be bad !

Good Luck though with whatever you find...
