As others have said, a healthy one will fully extend itself with your lighting cycle and also expand and retract during feeding cycles as well. You can try looking up bulletin boards like reefcentral.com as there are many hobbyists that are very helpful and encouraging even if some there feel entitled and appear to lash out at times.

Good luck with your tank as it's a great and painstaking hobby. I'm going through the same joy and pain somedays with my 100 gallon reef tank right now.

Good color, tentacles extended. Unheatlhy ones kind of shrink up and lose color.
