When someone has a low self esteem one of the things that can help is for you to be her friend. Make sure that she knows you are with her and willing to listen to her problems.
Usually a person with a low self esteem does not have friends because in being so absorbed in themselves they can not project friendship to others. So they look stuck up or like they don't want to talk with you. So you leave them alone.
How do I know this? When young I had a very low self esteem. I had no friends of my own because of it and the only friend I had was a friend of my brothers. Speaking just for me if I had someone like you to help lift me up and show me they cared I may have very well done much better. I can't speak for her as I don't know how bad it is.
My self esteem was so low I not only had no friends I didn't even try to have girl friends. And I wanted one in the worst way. But I was so down on myself when I thought about asking, instead of fearing rejection like most guys, I could not imagine why they would let themselves be seen out with me. Yea. that bad.
Your friend may be where I was, I don't know but the only thing you can do is be there for her and do everything you can to build her up. She has no idea why she is this way and it is not something you can talk yourself out of. It gets better with age and experience but to some extent it is life long. But the more people who show you they care and value you the sooner you overcome this.

I would comfort her, tell her good things about herself, just let her see the bright things in life. Let her know that she has true, kind friends. Just be a kind good person to her, show her around and stuff. Be the best, kindest, nicest person you can be to her.
Isabel's and Mandi's answers are probably way better than mine.

think like this: you have only one life. ONE. In this wold live some milions of people. If you want, trust me you can make friends, hundred of friends. You will be surprised how many people think in this moment like you. Go on, meet new people, good or bad, doesn't mather, you just pump in to there life, if they deserve stai if not go away. You will find a friend who will make you feel better.Live your life, you have nothing to lose.Kiss you!

you need to tell her how much you care about her and that she is totally awesome and cool, you cant go wrong with telling your friend is awesome, she'll appreciate it and if she hears it alot, she might start believing it. And spend time with her, invite her to alot of places to do things with her and so she knows you care about her and wouldnt want anything to happen to her
