Definitely -- if they are like that for a few days, even if they're wet to start with and hanging up like in the house for a few days and it's really humid or there isn't good air circulation, they'll start to smell like mildew. If they are wet and left in a pile it won't take long for the mildew to set in too. You've got to act quickly once you realize there's a problem -- put in washer again, lots of detergent, preferablly scented kind, use lots of regular Downy in there too, to get rid of the odor. If they are whites then use bleach. Good luck, Mildew smell is notoriously difficult to get rid of.

Yes if they are left wet and in a pile, they will mold and then rot away. It takes a day or so for the mold to get in

Well eventually you will have mold/mildew and that will ruin your cloths and all the washing and bleach trying to get rid of the stain will cause it to rot out!!

They can mildew but the great thing about clothes is that you can wash them and they are good...most times. Sometimes they stain and the mildew will not leave no matter how much you bleach and wash.

Yep, they get moldy, and the resulting stains (and holes, if you let it go that long) aren't repairable. Plus, wet, stagnant clothes tend to attract crickets and other bugs, which enjoy chewing on them.
