Last night the power went out, and today my monitor keeps flashing Auto Adjust in Progress. I've tried about everything I can think of; pressed the auto adjust on the screen itself, rebooted, updated my drivers. The last time this happened I found a file in my global start up that seemed to be causing the problem, and got rid of it and the message stopped, but that file isn't there anymore (it came from my isp's installation disc--i was trying to fix a different problem with it), and I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

It's a Dell E193FP The driver I installed is R83276 I don't know if that makes any difference to anyone. The PC in general is an XPS 200.

Just a couple more notes: this system is less than a year old. I keep it absolutely clean as a whistle, inside and out (it's dust free and virus/spyware free) It boots up all the way, however, it has been taking it's sweet time loading programs, and that auto adjust too. Is it possible the power outtage tried to fry the hardware?

It sounds like your computer isn't booting up.
If you have another system, or maybe can borrow a laptop, try the monitor on another system.
I am honestly guessing there is nothing wrong with the monitor, and your system is out to lunch somehow.
Try booting your system from a floppy disk.
Watch the drive lights on the system and see if it appears to be trying to boot at all.
If it does seem to be trying to boot, try another video card.

Often this is the GPU manufacturer's silly utility, check your Toolbar for a utility, or:

Right Click Desktop-> Properties-> Settings (tab)-> Advanced (bottom button)-> Options (tab) [maybe, depending on manufacturer]

Poke around this may be the problem, or

Somewhere in your monitor's firmware menu (this should be fun) there should be an 'Auto Setting' and in the same Menu it usually lets you use your preset.
