A and B are boyfriend/girlfriend who live in seperate countries. C is B´s friend. A does not know C.

A is going to visit B. B knows that C is looking to buy a widget. B asks A to buy a widget for C since widgets in A´s country ($500) are significantly cheaper than widgets in C´s country ($1000). C will reimburse A upon arrival for the cost of the widget.

A agrees to help.

A is given C´s email address. Through email correspondance, A is able to determine exactly what type of widget C wants.

A purchases the widget for C.

Meanwhile, B loses her widget.

What is the right thing to do?

1) A should give the widget to C. After all, even though he doesn´t really know C, A made a promise to buy the widget for C. It is unfortunate that B lost her widget, but A´s obligation is to C.

2) A should give the widget to B. After all, he doesn´t really know C, and B is his girlfriend. If B has to buy another widget, it will cost twice as much as A paid. A´s obligation is to B.

A should give C first right of refusal because that was who the original deal was with. A should ask C if they still want it and explain the situation. See if they're willing to give it up. If they're not, then gotta continue with the original agreement between A and C.

Why would B, who is friends with C, want to deprive C of the widget? And why can't A bring two widgets, one for B and one for C?

The correct answer is #1, but if A was a good boyfriend he would replace the widget that B lost and if any of them knew anything about hustling, A would buy 5 widgets at $500 a piece in his country and sell them at $750 a piece in B and C's country where they are selling for $1000. That a profit of $250 each for the sellers and a savings of $250 for the buyers.

A's responsibility is to give widget to C as originally agreed. While A is visiting, can B give A $$$ for widget for A to purchase upon A's return to country where widgets are cheaper and then ship widget to B? Good luck.

A and C are not responsible for B loosing her widget. Therefore the widget A bought should go to C. If C should choice to give it to B because she needed it more, then it is only up to C and neither of the other two.

When A returns to their country then they can purchase the widget for B and send it to her.

A should give the widget to C. B's losing hers has nothing to do with the transaction between the two except to see the money is there. Next time have the money in hand before you buy anything for someone==even people you know.

A should give the widget to C, but he'd better make the money to buy another widget to give to B.
