Both. It's a blessing when it draws families closer together, teaches us, and informs us of world events. It also entertains us and helps us cope with daily stress. It's a curse when we allow it to eat up all of our spare time, when it keeps us from spending time with our families, and when it erodes the values of our society. I think it all depends on how we use it - what we watch and how much time we spend watching it.

Television is a thing, things aren't capable of good or evil. They simply are. It is what they are used for that answers your question.

A television at the head of a class of students. A nurse teaching CPR. On their way home, two 16 year old girls find child not breathing. Mouth to mouth was applied, the child recovered. Now is that a blessing?

Mom and Dad out of town. Half a dozen 16 year olds having a party, 2 six packs and they are buzzed. A night of "Carrie", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "In Cold Blood", another couple of six packs and a search. The kids find two guns, a chain saw, an ax and a torch. They proceed to use them all on the family next door. Now is that a curse?

I would argue "NO" to both questions. Each and every aspect was selected and controled by some human. Even the selection of who would be in the class or who would be invited to the party.

Nearly every inanimate object you can think has, at one time or another, been used for good and evil.

Questions are sometimes less simple than you might think.

It matter which shows you're watching.

If you're watching Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire and your kids are constantly watching Spongebob and Cartoon Network, then yes, it's a curse. Kids just sit there in a hypnotic haze, staring at the TV and this stupid, talking sponge and don't learn a damned thing. Dora is terrible because she teaches kids to speak Spanish. It's hard enough for a 4 or 5 year-old to get English down pat without having another language that they don't need to know thrown in.

TV can be informative and a great tool for learning if it's used correctly and in moderation.

Shows such as Forensic Files, Dateline, CNN and the Learning Channel are wonderful. You learn - they're entertaining and if kids would watch them, they'd grow up with more knowledge of the real world and be more intelligent.
Watching Tom and Jerry won't do anything positive for a child.

It depends on how you use it. If it is used responsibly so that it does not rule your life, a person should be fine. However, if one is not careful if can suck their life away. There is ALWAYS something better to do than watch t.v, but we all need some mindless down time every now and then.

properly certainly this is the two. that's a blessing because of the fact this is one way for us to get counsel and get knowledgeable and might impact us in a competent way. that's a curse because of the fact it could pollute our innovations with undesirable issues which impacts us in a foul way..
