Please don't download ANY P2P softwares without knowing what are in them - a number of free softwares (like the ones suggested above) are contaminated with viruses and spyware that harvest your information so the company can make money by selling your information to advertising companies.

Here's a list of CLEAN softwares that have been tested by experts: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/

From that list above I'd suggest http://www.shareaza.com/, if you going to let children use the software the best way of helping them avoid nasty files is education - make sure they only search in music and use clean and clear keywords.

Good luck.

Kids should not use P2P. The downloads are filled with spyware and viruses. Not to mention that kids as young as 12 have been sued by the RIAA for stealing copyrighted music using P2P.

no p2p program is child friendly. What you do with a p2p program is generally illegal. Don't let any child get hooked with p2p, it's addicting and when you get caught the fines will be larger than you can even imagine.
