I tell my students that it's generally best to first convert any mixed fractions into improper ones (number on top and a number on the bottom) because it makes it easier to handle.

To convert mixed to improper, you multiply the whole number by the denominator, and then add the numerator to it.

When it comes to dividing fractions, the KEY is that you flip-flop the fraction you're dividing by, and then multiply.

So 1 / 2 divided by 2 / 3 would become 1 / 2 x 3 / 2.

To multiply fractions, you simply multiply the numberators together to get your new numerator, then multiply your denominators together to get your new denominator.

Example, 2 / 3 x 1 / 2 = ( 2 x 1 ) / ( 3 x 2 ) = 2 / 6, which could be ultimately be reduced down to 1 / 3.

7/3 * 7/2 = 49/6 = 8 and 1/6th

22/5 * 3 = 66/5 = 13 and 1/5th

35/6 * 14/5 = 490/30 = 49/3 = 16 and 1/3

I would estimate that it is closer to 5 than 4 1/2

1 and 1/9th

4 2/3rds

Hope that helps.

2/3 x 4/5=2x4 by 3x5
but first make fractions like 2 1/3 into "proper" fractions: 7/3
now you can multiply them.
And if you have to divide: make the inverse of one of them and then multiply them
