because your sweat contains small amounts of urine and salts, but tears are already in ur eyes and are mostly water and salts.thats also why sweat stains are yellow for some people.gross huh?and as for the person below me, tears do have salt in them, if u look at the formulas for artifial tears (eye drops that are similar to tears) then u will see that they contain salt, and have u ever tasted ur tears? they taste salty.

A simple pH blance. Your tears are pH balanced for your conjunctivae and sclerae. Sweat has a different pH - higher sodium chloride and other metabolic byproducts expressed through your skin, not to mention if the person has lotion/etc. on their face, or products in their hair that can mix with the sweat and this is what is stinging.

just because they are both salty doesn't mean that they have the same chemical make up.

did you know that researchers analyzed tears and found different chemical compositions for happy tears, sad tears, the tears you cry when you are scared.
