yea, I think they shoulr eliminate that last 9. After all, gas is 2.999 per gal;lon. So if i buy one gallon of gas for my lawn mower, why can't I get 1/10th of a cent back? No I have to pay the $3.00 and that way, for every 10 people that buy gas, the oil company gets an extra penny. Don't sond like much, but multiply that by thousands. Then every day. Comes out to hundres of dollars, they are ripping us off !!!!!!!!!

Actually, it is to make it "look cheaper".

Back in the dark ages, like the 1960's, my Dad said that gasoline prices were like 23.9 cents per gallon. So, the difference between 23.9 cents (with the 23 being in large numbers) and 24 cents was a much bigger deal than it is now (gas prices here are like $ 3.20).

I am sure that when gasoline was first sold, it was even cheaper than that.

Go ahead and price it where you like and see if you can get your way. I seem to have to pay the prevailing rate in my area which, by the way, is $.40 per gallon more than what you are complaining about. Oh and those pesky .009 cents I believe is part of the tax levied at the pump.

Gas is priced 2.98 in my neighborhood. 2.59999 is easier to take in for some people rather than 2.60
