How come you don't see to many dead birds around?
Mind you ...I'm asking this for my cousin that just called me!
With so many birds flyin' around. Why does it seem like you never see any that have flown their last flight.?

Thanks!

I think that there are all sorts of carnivores around to eat them. I grew up in a somewhat rural location, and if an animal passed away, there were plenty of other wild animals interested in eating it...sometimes even animals that weren't dead yet had others interested in eating them!

Once when I was mowing lawn when I was about 12 or 13, I accidentally cut up a small rabbit! I was so upset, and I quit for the day immediately after that. I asked my mum if I should take it off of the lawn, and she said no because another animal would take it overnight. She was right: something drug it away overnight.

(I'm not from a state...I'm from the Russian Federation (CCCP/USSR when I was born there actually), but I now live for much of the year in central Canada.)

Why do you want to see dead birds? They just look like birds, but they're dead. My guess would be, When a bird dies in a public area, one of three things happens pretty quickly: 1. A cat or other predator comes along and grabs it; 2. A sanitation worker cleans it up; or 3. Someone walking down the street picks it up and throws it away or buries it. I don't know for sure though. Maybe birds fly out to the ocean to die.

I live in SC but grew up and still visit TN. In TN we see dead birds often. Mind you, we live out in the boonies. However, most flies and bugs will immediatly start to break down any dead object until something bigger comes along. Since the non-feather portion of a bird is tiny, it doesn't take very long to break it down. Other animals, especially birds, pick up the extra feathers of dead birds to use in their nests.

You haven't been to my place, they drop a present on my car, and Boom! no more birdy. Just kidding.

As for all over the place, I'm in Wisconsin, but I've met people from India, Australia, England, Japan...well, pretty much anywhere you can get internet access, and speak passable English (some not so passable) you can get on Answers...

That's a good question. It made me think of an incident that happened with my cat a couple of weeks ago. She brought a little bird to the back door, and was so proud of herself, and I was angry with her, but I had to remind myself that it's in her nature to do such things, so maybe the cats are getting some of them.
