It's evolution. We are programmed to seek partners that can give us healthy children.
Good muscle tone means health, the ability to raise children and healthy children. Good hair and skin means that the person is getting good nutrition. Good breasts means she kan feed the kids. A nice butt is a good indication of muscletone. Good hips means an easy child birth. Soft facial feature means youth.
We still have the pull towards these things. It's the same reason that we crave sugar and salt; at one time these were hard to find so the cavemen who craved these had a better chance of remaining healthy and passing on their genes.
And cavemen who craved certain health-related characteristics would be less likely to pass on their genes. There may have been cavemen who craved women with malnourished hair, tiny breasts, and the facial features of a 40 year old, but they would be MUCH less successful in having and raising healthy children. So they died out, and we still have cravings that were important 50,000 years ago.

lol i agree with mel its because theyre usually people you "cant have" so u want them even more even if they are the biggest jerk on the planet..stupid blake..haha also i dont get the double t in "hott" everyoen started usuing to describe a good looking person but i dont see the point of the extra t lol
