Around the period 1994-1999, he was easily one of the top 5 in the world.
No small feat, especially when you see players like Weah, Van Basten, Stoichkov, Mihaijtovic, Romario, Shearer, Batistuta, Bierhoff, Baggio, Vieri, Del Piero, Lentini etc, still in their prime.
But Bergkamp was a match for everyone of them (better in some cases).
His father named him after a great player (Denis Law), it must have been beyond his wildest dreams, to learn that his son, 'can always hold a candle' to Law.
