The best is none of those. It is "Acer". The acer laptops are really elegant and work forever! They have very good prices, too.

Best for home: Acer and Toshiba. Why, because they are original equipment manufacturers and offer excellent support and build quality. For business: IBM and Panasonic. Why, because they are built to be rugged for the road.

I have a HP and have never had a problem with anything...You only get what you pay for...As the saying goes...Pay Peanuts and you get a Monkey...Cheap dosnt mean its good...Plus dosnt hurt to pay for a extended warranty as parts for Laptops are quite expensive after warranty runs out... Good Luck

HP is pretty good brand. I wouldnt really suggest Compaq for your laptop. it might be cheaper but with computers you pretty much get what you pay for.

They all have different virtues:

Sony: size/weight

HP/Toshiba/Compaq/Dell: price

I like Dell because the machines would just go on and on and on. However their customer service is crappy. I now have a IBM and I really like it.
