OK, as a silly gift, I got my wife a Superman cookie (she LOVES Superman.) I thought that she would eat it, but says that she wants to keep it. (I know, I know, don't get me started.)

How do I preserve this cookie? Can I shellac it or something? The cookie has the consitancy of an animal cracker with a frosting design.

Don't even bother trying. The shellacked cookies and other foods you've seen aren't made from edible dough - it's loaded with cups of salt and bakes up hard as a rock.

Convince your wife that eating it is a much better use of the cookie, and offer her a Superman keychain (etc.) instead.

Lame.
Spray shellac it maybe but even with shellac, the cookie can still fall apart. What the heck is she going to do with the cookie?
If she really likes Superman why doesn't she collect things worth collecting, like Superman painted by Alex Ross.

I think that the frosting makes a shellac-type solution unlikely (too much oil/moisture to remain structurally stable), but you might be able to shrink-wrap the cookie or otherwise enclose it in plastic to make it last longer. If the cookie is moist or your climate is humid, you might need to include a dessicant (like the ones sold for closets or included in shoeboxes or vitamin bottles) to delay mold.
