when a kid can sit and watch one at home, he/she will probably be ok. but please think of others in the room. the film should definitely be a childrens film that will have your child's complete attention. the worst thing in the world is for your kid to become bored or figidy...if that happens just tell the child it's time to go...best to make a peaceful retreat than an embarrassed scamper with a bunch of angry people staring at you. or take a break and get some snacks and watch from the entry and ask the child if he would rather see it in video at home later...substitute something. it's ok to try it, but don't go to some complicated movie with a date, get a baby sitter.

A lot depends on the temperament of the child though. My son, who is calm and would just fall asleep if he was bored, started going when he was 18 months old. My daughter, who is a little more high strung, didn't start until she was about 2 1/2. My guess is that anything less than about 18 months is just asking for trouble!
A good indication if they are ready is if they will sit through a whole video without too many interruptions. If they are doing that, it is probably time. If they only watch about 15 minutes and then get up and jump around, you may want to wait. Regardless, try an afternoon kid's movie. People who are there will also have kids and will be much more understanding than those in more adult movies in the evening.

Depends on the situation. I brought my son with me to movies specially set up for new mothers. The lights remained on, the sound was lowered and there was a changing table there. Nobody was admitted without an infant. It was a great morning out where I could nurse my son without somebody complaining or being told to shut him up when he cried. He was 5 months old when we first started going and about 12 months when we stopped - I was chasing him around too much to enjoy the movie.

When your child understands sitting still, paying attention and being quiet. Along with that, it depends upon the movie. There are movies that are rated PG-13 that are being marketed to little kids with toys and advertisements during cartoon shows these days!

At least age 4. I have a 5 yr old boy and he can sit through a movie...but we rencently tried to take our 2 yr old to see X Men III, what a mystake that was! I felt so embarassed and had to take him out quick. He wouldn't sit in the seat, he wanted to play on the stairs, he was screaming and crying. He just wasn't ready.

I'm guessing that you're asking about a newborn... It really depends on the baby. You probably don't want to be in a crowded place anyway for the first 2 months or so. After that, it depends how quiet s/he is... My youngest "saw" her first movie at 3 months.

I took my daughter to see Finding Nemo a couple of years ago when it came out, she was around 3 or 4, and she wouldnt even go into the theatre. We had to get a refund and go home.

'The kid' ???? What, are you the parent of a baby goat or something? I do believe they are called children nowadays. Anyone who talks about their children like that, 'the kid', must not be very well bonded with their child.
