The insurance companies could be banned from the healthcare side of things and everyone could send in $20 per person or whatever the number needs to be which would go in a account for the nations healthcare needs of course bylaws would be needed to protect it so it doesn't get robbed like other government accounts. I think its the only way, so lets work out the details.plus we could negotiate better deals for the whole of the country with huge savings being realized for the American people.

The mexican public health system (the oldest of which is the IMSS system) works by recieving funding by three sources: the employee, the job and the government which spend taxes in infrastructure.

There's specific requirements to become a beneficiary of the IMSS system where the main requirement is to have a job. Certain people related to you automatically join the IMSS as well: Your spouse (sadly laws haven't been changed yet where homosexual life partners can't get the much needed benefits), female concubines (while a legally married same sex partner can't get benefits, any random woman you cheat your wife with can get the benefits!!! ACK!!), children and your parents. You get a monthly pension when you turn 65.

Other public systems like the ISSTE use the same system requirements as the IMSS. PEMEX, Sedena and other military related health services have their own specific requirements and benefits.

Sadly reforms must be made so that the employee and the job gives more money each month so that a monetary crisis doesn't happen in the near future when a heap of old people retire and continue to live several decades of public pension money.

Sadly the US doesn't have a real universal public health system and doesn't care about making one even though it's seriously needed. Only old people and the extremly poor can get freebee health. People that don't work because they are lazy and not because they have serious health problems on freebee wellfare get the benefits hardworking middleclass americans without private health insurance can't get because of the gaps in the public american healthcare system.

Until american congressmen really get to work to make the american healthcare system better (along with lowering healthcare costs which to me are beyond ridiculous), americans are better off going to Mexico or Canada for proper healthcare.

Beyond what many people think, the healthcare in the IMSS is very good. I take courses at an IMSS hospital and it's attended by the very same doctors that work at the uber expensive pirviate hospitals. The only downside is that public hospitals don't always have the finest medications or the most fancy sthetoscopes that can cost up to 1500 dollars. The IMSS prefers to use the cheaper models, but they still work good if you have a good ear.
