as an example:

Hackensack, NJ to Orlando, FL = Approx. 1200 miles

at 25mpg roughly 48 gallons of gas at est cost of $3.15/gal would be approx. $150.00 one way for gas x 2 for round trip = $300.00

If you shopped a little you could more than likely find a round trip air fare for $250.00 or less.

I drove to NH from Florida and back last sept (when gas was over $3.00 a gallon) Saved just over $1200.00 compared to flying (me&wife) even with motels, meals and tolls. downside was, it took 3 days each way
depends how much time you have. Jersey is ony couple of hundred miles less than NH (maybe 5~6hrs?)

There are a lot of variables in your question....like what kind of car will you be driving (which will be a factor in determining the cost of gas) and where in florida are you going....which will determine possible airfares....can you be more specific on both? Also airfares differ significantly based on date...when are you looking to go?

fly cost will be nearly the same as what gas will be
