Moving to Tucson, AZ from England as my fiance is being based in Davis-Monthan - i can drive a manual stick car but have no licence here. How long do you think it will take me to get an automatic licence in AZ as i need it in the shortest possible time and have no idea how long the general process is in the states.

In the U.S. there is no special provision for driving an automatic vs. a stick. Once you have a license, you can drive either. All of the details, process and requirements can be found at this site: http://www.azdot.gov/mvd/

FYI....MANY states now require you to have a green card before they will issue you a drivers license

In the USA you don't get a different license for automatic or manuals. You get your driving permit after you have studied a manual containing driving laws. You then take a written test. Depending on which state and how old you are you need so many hours behind the wheel. Check a wed site for the DMV in the state of AZ for future information.

try going to www.state.az.us. the process is different for all the different states, so going to the arizona government website is the best way to go unless someone from there can answer the question.
