some people raise goats for meat. It is not worth it unless you are committed to become a vegetarian, and are willing to help all the cows out too.

Make sure that you research into how much this goat will cost to take care of, do you have the time and the money to do that? Your heart is in the right place, but are you going to do the goat any justice by buying it?

goats are used for meat all the time... but it depends on the cruelty involved and the breed of the goat... but there are too many goats in the world because of their breeding habbits... if the treatment of the goat seems cruel... such as they are going to shoot the goat or something, then you should call the ASPCA... but if they are selling the goat to a meat company, for commercial product then it's no different than if they were selling a cow for meat... they cost of upkeep on a goat is not worth the trouble though

Do you want this goat? If you buy it just to save it, you will probably be sorry in the long run. If you really want the goat and have the means to care for it, then definitely buy it. Some things to keep in mind:
1) Goats are herd animals. A goat is happiest and quietest when it's with other goats. If you don't have other goats, they can adapt to living with other types of herd animals such as horses or sheep, but a goat that is always by him or herself will find trouble everywhere it can.
2) Goats require very sturdy fencing. They can jump. They can squeeze through quite small holes. They are extremely persistant and if they want to get out, they will.
3) You do not want goats to get out. They will eat all your flowers, trees, shrubs, and anything else that you don't want them to eat. Some goats will climb around on cars or whatever else they can find in your yard.
4) Goats do need shelter. If it's a small goat (like a pygmy goat or Nigerian dwarf), a large dog house may be big enough, but it does need some kind of shelter from the elements.

On the other hand...if you have some pasture with a good fence, goats are a great way to keep weeds at bay. They will eat the weeds before they eat the grass that other animals prefer. We keep a herd of pygmy goats with our horses and they eat the stuff that the horses aren't interested in. If you don't have pasture you will have to purchase hay to feed him. Goats also love grain as a treat but they don't have to have it all the time. We give grain to ours as a supplement to hay in the winter but in the summer they are just on pasture with no grain.

Gare extremely entertaining to watch. Especially if you have things for them to climb around on. If you have more than one they will play "King of the Mountain". Any time we have visitors they love to watch the goats and ask lots of questions about them.

While they do require routine vaccinations and wormings and some occasionally need their toenails trimmed, goats are hardy animals and generally easy to care for and not as expensive as a lot of pets.

If you spend some time with the goat you can halter train it. Goats are thought to have about the same intelligence as dogs and can be taught a lot of different things if you wish to take the time to do it.

Good luck with your decision!!

If you have room to let it live outside all the time, then yeah, but you also need shelter for harsher conditions. (Rain, snow, blazing heat) Also, goats are a little rambunctious, so you better keep a close eye on what he is able to get into, don't want him dying from eating an empty can from your garbage. It is up to you and your parents really, I'm sure it would be worth it though, animals are so much fun.

Be carefull what you are taking on here.

What will you feed it?
Where will you put it?
What will you do when it gets sick?

Its just like having a dog except it has NO desire to be taught ANYTHING.
And there are few things it considers "off limits" for potential food. You think
its cute when your puppy chews on your shoes? How about when your
goat chews on Dad's car's tires?

Some people keep goats for their fur (spinning), but mostly they
are kept for their milk and as meat - and because they are relatively
easy to feed.

If you have established a personal relationship with this goat, be aware
that you will only grow to love it more as it drives you out of house and
home.

People raise animals to kill them for their meat - you're not going to be
able to save them all, or even an appreciable portion of them.

Hey Liz,
I think you should buy the goat, becouse The poor little goaty
will dye for a really dumb reason,if I were you I would try my best to help the Goaty.
If you can not take care of it then take it to a safari plan they will take care of it for you.
Best Wishes.

I surely have eaten Goat many situations and it tastes scrumptious, anytime I went to my aunt and uncles position in Arkansas. They all began with 3 and the hills for miles have wild goats that are the decendants of the three. that is acceptable tasting,
