"For real?" Does this mean you're assuming there is one number that is the correct answer to this?

I dispute that assumption. It will vary depending on the licker, the pop (they vary, and are not all exactly the same amount of covering or same size of tootsie), the state of the pop (if it's hot, it may be kinda melty), what you define as 'a lick', and who knows what all.

I believe statistics classes do this as a data gathering activity.

Why don't you buy a bunch, and get willing friends and family members and do a study? It is, after all, an empirical question that anyone with the price of the pops is in a position to answer.

Just don't expect a single number, rather expect a distribution of numbers.

Sometimes the best why to find out is to do research buy one and count the licks. Don't suck on it just count the individual licks then you will know for sure just how many it takes.

Well - this is a complex matematic/physics/Biology

-It depends , of full complexaty of body ot liker, his properties of acids in mouth, size of place that is curently licking, athmosphere, themperature, speed of wind and radioactivity :)
