any decent name like GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, etc. will work. A lot of off brands last quite a while too and do a good job.

G.E. was rated best in consumer reports for customer satisfaction and they are very quiet they are a few more bucks than the competitors but the quietest so if quiet is important then g.e. otherwise there about all the same

Really? At 8000 btu, buy anyone you want because they are all disposable. It cost more for the service call to fix one than it does to replace it.

I would check consumer reports, I checked A few years ago and Fedders was the best on the market then.
