Under The Influence of Giants’ “Mama’s Room” explodes on iTunes
By Patrick Luce Jun 22, 2006, 17:01 GMT

The buzz surrounding Under the Influence of Giants continues to build as their single “Mama’s Room” has been overwhelmingly embraced on iTunes fueling the anticipation for the band’s full-length debut ‘Under the Influence of Giants’ out August 8th.

On June 13, iTunes began their Single Of the Week campaign with the infectious track which quickly sparked an amazing reaction. Taken with “Mama’s Room,” listeners jumped to purchase the band’s “Heaven Is Full” EP - which hit #8 on iTunes Alternative Album Chart and #31 on iTunes Top 100 Album Chart. Purchasers also have left nearly 100 EP reviews averaging 4 out of 5 stars on iTunes.

In addition to their iTunes presence, the band has amassed a strong fanbase on Myspace, and currently has more than 21,000 'friends' with nearly 120,000 page views on Myspace.com. With the video for “Mama’s Room” in the works, directed by Artificial Army (Mars Volta, Blackalicious), the groundswell will only continue to grow.

As they move to progressively larger venues around the L.A. area, the group got raves on their May tour with New Orleans electro-alt rock collaboration Mute Math. The next round of tour dates will be announced shortly.

Under The Influence of Giants includes Aaron Bruno (vocals/lyrics), Jamin Wilcox (drummer, keyboards), Drew Stewart (guitars), and David Amezcua (bass) – have been praised for their combination of rock energy tempered with pop sensibility, harmonies and a hefty dose of groove-based funk.

Well-grounded in the SoCal rock scene, Aaron and Drew were Westlake High School pals before they got together as the core of Home Town Hero (Maverick, 2002). Jamin, son of famed drummer Willie Wilcox (Hall & Oates, Todd Rundgren’s Utopia), also had a major label experience under his belt as a member of Audiovent (Atlantic, 2002).

As their Island debut bears out, the Giants’ funk-inflected, hook-saturated pop-soul is a combination of the Talking Heads’ African poly-rhythmic groove (“Ah-ha,” “Got Nuthin’”), the ethereal falsettos of Michael Jackson and Prince (“Mama’s Room”), the blue-eyed R&B of Hall & Oates and George Michael (“In the Clouds”), the insinuating melodic pop of Rubber Soul (“Stay Illogical”), Earth, Wind & Fire’s horn-driven, noir-ish funk (“Against All Odds”), McCartney’s winsome balladry (“Lay Me Down”) and even the throbbing beat of post-hip-hop by way of Madonna (“Meaningless Love”).

Fans can learn more about the band at their official website or on their myspace.com page.
