Well there's lots of reasons.
For one, men and women are wired up differently. You know, the whole Men Are From Mars Women Are From Venus thing. If you've never read it, I highly recommend it. It offers a very very good insight into both genders and how they interact.
Secondly, the media and society offers tremendous influence on our behaviors. Often we're bombarded by television, movies, magazines, music, etc that may give a skewed view of how we should behave. Imagine if the only way we learned how to behave was from action movies?
Thirdly, contrary to popular belief not all guys are clueless idiots. We simply don't thnk the same way women do. Men tend to be more concrete and direct. Men are more visually stimulated (which is why the porn industry caters almost exclusively to men) than women.
Men tend to internalize their emotions, wheras women tend to externalize them. It may be that showing emotion is seen as a sign of weakness, which is intolerable. Above all, a man wants to feel CAPABLE. Whether it's capablility in talent, sex, intellect, sports, etc he wants to feel able to do it.
Don't give up hope on the male gender just yet. Perhaps you just haven't found the right one!

Because they are young and selfish. Boys don't grow up as fast as girls do.... They are slower. Plus when they get older they get better but it's still the same. It's the way it will always be. I've known my hubby forever and I tell him to do things and he won't listen and then a month down the road he'll go you were right I should have listened. SO it doesn't get any better. My dad just now acts normal and he's old. So around 50 they get it.....
