The team's answer is wrong. Paramedics does not mean 'a pair of medics. 'Para' is a prefix meaning 'assistant'.

Paramedics are medical professionals that work para.... basically outside with the guidance and on the licsence of a physcian. We are an extension of the care you would get in the emergency room but not a substitute.... We stabilize illness and injuries to a point where the person can be transported to the Er and worked on by a larger and differently trained staff....
