How many of the germans before and during WW2 believed in what they were being told by the Nazis? You only have to see the latest movies to know that "film" or "digital film" technology has moved on since then. I think most would now say that germans films of that era show misguided adoring Germans listening to their leaders.

There are a lot of comments in this site about not believing the arabs/zionist/US/UK/pres/muslims/christians/jews..... or just about anything they dont like without offering cogent arguments..

Is it possible that we are not being told the whole truth or only allowed to see selected portions of it? Or are "we" just stupid and just stopped thinking for ourselves?

How many had reason to doubt what they were being told?

How many times have you heard that world leaders have been less than honest about a situation. Today we call it spin, but it's something we all do! We all like to "spin" things to put us in a good light, politicians are no different.

A bit of clever editing using the new medium of film does wonders. When you make a video, you film what you want to see, or if it's for others, either what you think they like, or what you want them to see, but certainly not bits you don't want them to see. That's spin! What makes you think politicians and governments aren't above that?

Information is power. The truth is somthing that can be traded and used to manipulate. Why the love hate relationship we have with the press?

Sure the Nazis did it, so does Blair, so does Bush, so did Sadam, as did the Romans. Sure, conspiracy theorists will always make it sound worse than it really is and others will try to smooth it over.

Do you really think governments, even company bosses, ever tell you the whole truth? Why is advertising using TV so powerful? Tell people what you want them to believe and they will.

Not being told by whom? Everybody, and every organization, keeps secrets, and will, on occasion, distort facts- the purpose of free speech is to ensure that no one party is able to distort the truth enough to make a really significant impact on public perceptions (obviously, quite a few parties do influence the public, but nothing like the sort of perceptual manipulation that goes on where free speech is disallowed). The best thing any citizen in a democracy can do for their nation is to remain rationally skeptical of authority- any authority, to ensure that no one can enjoy free reign over the public view.

Your question and the details don't go together! The camera shows what it's pointed at. It doesn't lie. People lie. A lot of the lies we actually want to believe, even though we know they're lies, i.e. dramas are lies, they're not real events. Oh hang it, I'll just take the points and not bother answering any more than this.

What is the truth, and why wouldn't we be able to handle it?
