Hi, I am a bit freaked out, but hopefully it is me being a crazy, worried Mom. I notice a few months ago a little bump behind my daughters ear, (a little smaller than a pea) did not think anything of it at first and noticed the other day it was still there. I had her at the docs today and figured I would ask. I had a different doc cause my regular one was not in and I asked him about it. He said, oh it is a gland. I asked him if I should be worried and he was very "whatever" about it. He said it could have been from a bug bite or something. But now I am so worried!! It is really small )smaller than a pea) and it is only on one side, it is the gland behind her ear. Has anyone else had this or noticed it? Is it anything to worry about? My regular doctor is on vacation and I am just going to be worried sick till I get to talk to him.

Thanks for the responses so far! I know it is a node, but if it is the sz of a pea (little smaller) does that mean it is swollen? She has not been sick. Thank you again, she is my sweety and I was so scared about this, thank you all so much for your time!

All of my children had them. They felt like little pea-sized watery bumps. The doctor told me that they were just little glands and it was nothing to worry about. They disappeared (from my ability to feel them ) as they got older. I'm not a doc though, so taking your child to the doc was a good thing to do. Hope this is reassuring!!

If you noticed this a few months ago, then another week or 2 won't be so long to wait for your regular doctor. If your regular doctor has a don't worry about it attitude, then go directly to a specialist. If it's a gland, find a specialist in those. Better safe than sorry and a mother usually has better instincts than a non-relative (doctor or not). Go with your gut mommy.

All babies have them. I was as scared as you were when I first noticed the one behind my daughter's ear. I asked my mom and she told me the same thing your doctor did. My oldest child is 27 months now and the bump isn't noticable anymore. I wasn't scared when found the bump on my second child.

my baby has similar bumps. I checked with her doctor and she told me they're glands, and the general rule is not to worry about them if they're smaller than a dime. Anything bigger than that should get checked out. Good luck!

If you noticed this a few months, why did you not take her to the doctor then?

Anyway I say take her to the ER and see a doctor there...keep going back to the doctor till it is taken care of.

None of my kids had this problem.

I asked our pediatrician about the same thing. There are actually two of them, one on each side of the neck (maybe only one is really noticable though) and they are lymph-nodes, according to my ped. HTH!

swollen lymph nodes feel like small bumps. lymph nodes of babies are far more obvious. the swelling could be because of infection/dandruff. check the baby's temperature..
