My mom has kidney stones, I think. It's nothing real serious-but yeah. She's in the hospital and I'm really scared. I read up on them and I'm scared 'cause I can't concentrate. Can she be OK? What are the things I can do to calm down? How can I help my mom?

SERIOUS ANSWERS only. :)

Kidney stones are common. Generally, most people pass them without any help. If she gets obstructed they may go through her urethra, bladder, ureter and actually nab it in a tiny basket-like contraption. If they are too large to pass, they may try lithotripsy which is a mechanism utilizing ultrasound to break the stones into smaller pieces. They are keeping her comfortable and monitoring her well. Your positive attitude and comfort would help her tremendously. Look at home and try to divert your anxiety by doing some chores that would make her homecoming special. Clean the house, cut the grass, have all the laundry done. I wouldn't be surprised if she just needed more time and pain control to pass those stones. Everything will be fine. Take control of yourself and use all that anxiety for positive things. Write down a list of things to benefit her and cross them off as each task is completed; that way your efforts will not create a bigger mess. Take control of your fears, so that your fears don't control you.

Your mom will be fine. Sometimes kidney stones are too big to be passed thru the ureter or the tube that brings urine from the kidney to the bladder, so the urologist goes up and snags them out with a special tool. We call it a basket. Sometimes if they are still to big they can be busted up with a special type equipment and then they will pass.
Lots of people have kidney stones. She is probably in a lot of pain right now, but as soon as the stones are out of there, she will do fine. She may have a stent for a week or so, but the doctor will remove it in his office as an outpatient and she will do fine. Stents for kidney stones are routine. They keep the ureter open for a while while she heals.

She's going to be fine. It will hurt a lot to pass the stones, but that's what happens. If the stones are too big to pass, they'll use an ultrasonic pulse to break them up. Just buy her flowers and a get well card and she'll feel better.

Don't worry! It is nothing life threathening and it has become routine for doctors. They can be broken up using medications and lazers for bigger ones. There may be mild disconfort but she'll be fine so don't worry about it.
