I need to design a cleopatra costume for my 14 year old son for his year end drama. Can anybody advice me on the dress, jewelery, makeup, hair and undergarments? What about the footwear...shoes or anklets?

Is he Cleopatra or an Egyptian male? Men generally just wore a white skirt-type thing and women wore a full dress (sometimes, at least, they went topless too). Both wore large gold collars inlaid with jewels, long fabric or leather belts, and thong-type sandals with a strip of leather between the first and second toes connected to a piece that went across the top of the foot just in front of the ankle. The hair was mostly long, thick, black wigs. Makeup consisted of a lot of kohl around the eyes. Undergarments, just wear whatever he needs to.

Go to your local library and check out some books on ancient Egypt and you'll see how people were dressed, some of them have great pictures taken from paintings on papyrus or on tomb walls.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask: Did your son specifically ask you to prepare some Cleopatra-type UNDERGARMENTS? Are you SURE this is for some school play?

Meanwhile, try the link below for some ideas.

Sandals for shoes and they wore turquoise jewelry alot and gold, and black hair (wig or that spary stuff that comes out after you wash it). And if it is for your son they would wear skirt thing.
