and I'm wondering why the majority of the cast have Irish accents?? Too weird

I think there are two reasons why they went for Irish. First of all, as others have said, Colin Farrell is Irish - why this should have made them go that way I don't know, because he's done a passable American accent in Phone Booth and SWAT and other such films, so why he couldn't do a different accent in Alexander ...
Anyway, the other reason, I think, is that the ancient Macedonians were "provincial" folk, at least in the opinion of the Athenians and other Greek cities. They have been likened to the Scots and Irish in the Middle Ages, and so there's a certain allure in making them out to be the same as the Celtic Fringe. I was more concerned as to why they gave Angelina Jolie a cod-Central European accent - if the Macedonians were "Irish", then Olympias, as an Epirote, probably should have been "Welsh" or "Scots".
Anyway, nothing wrong with giving them all Irish accents - no worse than English or American (or anything else).

Firstly, why are you watching that god awful film?
Second, doest Colin Farrel know only Sean Connery can get away with not changing his accent for a role, i mean hes Scottish even when hes suppose to be Irish, Spanish whatever!

I was too busy staring at Colin Farrell's clashing yellow hair and big black eyebrows and stubble to pay much attention to the accents, but yes it was a bit weird, like the first time I watched Farscape and everyone was Australian. You expect people in period drama or science fiction to have English or maybe American accents.

Dylan this is getting to weird I'm watching it too.
I think because Colin is leading man they probably went Irish instead of having American accents.
oh in case you don't believe me Colin and Angelina are having tender moment lol she told him you will be 19 this summer eh he must be near 30 !!!
