I have an HP PSC 1315. As its cartridges cost more than a downpayment on a condo in Miami, I am a very very bad person who has them refilled. Works like a charm, but now the black cartridge is behaving very strangely and will print certain font sizes but not others. On pdf documents, it skips letters here and there. I know it's the cartridge because if I replace it with my photo cartridge, it works okay.

What's up?

Try cleaning the print head of the cartridge. You can do this by running a print head cleaning on the printer, but this is not always efficient.

Take the cartridge out of the printer, and place it in a container of hot water with the print head immersed. The cartridge head is probably clogged, and if this is the case it may help the cartridge to work again. If all else fails, return to the place of the cartridge refill and explain your problem. They may be able to suction the cartridge and have it work again.

How much can a cartridge cost? My laserjet black is $82, but it lasts about 4000 pages and that is not bad. I don't know if your is an inkjet. Try ink4jets. They are really cheap and have a good product.

i would run the printer diag, and the headcleaning etc.. this should help fix this problem, or ever better a full reinstall of the HP software.
