Synchronized bleeding yes. (Sounds like an Olympic sport, lol)

It is believed to be caused by pheromones.

RE:
do girls get their periods at the same time if they spend a lot of time together?

Yes, girls and women tend to get their periods at the same time if they spend a lot of time together. Each one gives off pheromones, which are like chemical signals given off from the body, and somehow the women's pheromones trigger each other. I have no idea what the purpose of this would be, though!

I have heard that girls who have a really strong bond, like mother/daughter, or friends, can have their periods synchronized, but it's not something that you have anycontrol over, and it doesn't happen to everyone. I think it's more of a spiritual thing. My friends and I have our periods usually around the same time of month, but not always the same days, and I don't believe that we are apart of such a phenomenon.

Yes, they do. I have had many friends who synchronized in about a year after they started living together.

The "why" is a different question... I guess much has to do with being affected by the hormonal mood swings of the other girls around.

Well, when I lived with my mom, it happened, and now that I live with my partner (who is female), we are on the same track. But it doesn't always happen that way. I think if you're talking about classmates or office mates, you'd have to spend a LOT of time at school or work!

Is it possible that this is an evolutionary adaptation? Perhaps those females who "synch up" with the group are somehow more liekly to procreate?

If one woman in the group is fertile while the others are menstruating, certainly she would attract more attention from the males. However, perhaps this anti-social "greed", if you will, attracts the ire of the other females, who cast her out of the social group.

Just an idea. It is an astounding phenomena, though.

I've heard you actually have to live together for an extended amount of time for that to happen.

yes. I know that this happens. It's a synergy that synchronizes the cycle. Isn't that a gross way to magnify the fact that we are all connected?!

Yes but it has to be for many months before their periods become sacronized.
