A supply-sider, first off. The Republicans have got that right, and the class-conscious Democrats get it wrong every time. Given that the US is so money-motivated, I think it's imperative that the President understand economics, and can utilize that knowlege to everyone's benefit.

A humanitarian. By that I mean someone who works to improve the lot of humans, not just specific groups of humans.

An adept diplomat. Someone who has the ability to understand other cultures, and can interact with their representatives with dignity, credibility, fairness, and integrity.

A citizen. By that I mean, one who keeps a certain amount of humility in reserve for themself, when the rarified air they are breathing gets a bit too heady. One who always remembers that they are of the people, by the people.

An intellectual, with high marks in a very good, well-rounded education. Strong in science and logic. Law, of course.

A traveller, who has seen much of the world, and not from a privileged vantage point.

One who believes in transparency of government, and as little government as possible.

An environmentalist.

Character traits--honest, open-minded, strong of will when needed, dignified of course, compassionate, tough. Great sense of humor. Capable of convoluted thought, so they can unsnarl the mess our government is in.

A knowledgable person who can lead with conviction and not listen to the masses. One who knows right and wrong and can make the difficult choices, especially those where the outcome is poor no matter which you choose.

A person who does what is in the best Long-Term Interests of the nation (not their party, not their, friends, not any particular demographic group).

This country comes first and its health and longevity should be paramount in the mind of a President.
