Is there a cure for this? Is there anyone out there with medical knowledge that can give me a serious answer to this important question as I am obviously worried about my child? I'm particularly interested in getting actual solutions rather than "go the doctor" type answers. At the moment, my child has been on iron supplements for four years as he loses a lot of blood thru' the nose.

I am sorry about your son's sufferings. Your son seems to be a grown up kid now and I am sure he will understand and follow some simple advises from you. Please make your son to understand that whenever he gets to know that he is bleeding, ask him to simply lie down flat facing the sky in order to stop the flow of blood. He should wipe out the blood and keep the nose clean. Please provide him with some extra clothing if he has to attend school. Put few drops of lemon leaves juice into his nostrils and if the leaves are not available, keep a bottle of almond oil at home and put few drops in his nostrils daily. Apply almond oil on his head and massage daily and apply sandal wood paste on his forehead daily. Aloe Vera juice or gel will help to a great extent. Please give him few dried raisins to eat daily to get more iron. If your son drinks milk, add little turmeric powder before boiling. During summer, ask your son to go for frequent showers and stay indoors. There are some good and effective Ayurvedic medicines available for this kind of ailment namely, Bol Baddh Ras tablets and Usheerasav (By Baidyanath) but the doses will be explained later because I am not aware of his age. If you trust my words, please do write to me on close2health@yahoo.com giving detailed history of your son's sickness, his age, location (Your country) and eating habits, so that I can prescribe best treatment for him. Take care of your child and let the mother and child be in good health.

Has your child had cautery to the nose yet?
4 years is an awful long time to put up with this, and on iron therapy because of it?
They must be torrential. Poor kid.
You need an ENT referral. Your Gp sounds complacent. Get a second opinion.
The vaseline suggestion does sound good in the mean-time.

May be your child has a weak blood vessel which is cycling between healing and rupturing. Hot weater expands blood vessels allowing more to the surface to be cooled, so thats why it happens during hot weather. A small operation to cauterise the blood vessel would probably clear this up.

i have heard it said that constant nose bleeds in very dry weather could be caused through high pollen counts and a good preventative is to put a little vaseline inside the nose before going out

Have you tried a little vaseline inside the nose to keep it from drying out?

my little sister used to have nose bleed constantly. the thing the doctor told her to do (after years of test) is to keep it wet. the capillaries of her nose are close to the skin and the dry heat makes them bleed. she uses saline misters and sometimes just saline drops in her nose. and dont let your kid pick at his nose alot this will only aggravate the situation.

maybe its serious... write down all his symptoms and go to the doctor... dont try to do it all by yourself... why do you think that these people study for 7 years or more.... !! come on, dont be silly.... its their job...
what you can do its to take notes of EVERYTHING he passes through, that will make the doctors job easier....

Take the kid to the doctor! That's a sign of leukemia.
