Well, it depends on how old you are. Years and years ago, people used to use carbon tetrachloride for removing stubborn spots from clothing but it was banned from use as a cleaning solvent because of its toxicity.

Yes, that would be white spirit, My dad used to lend it to me to take my nail varnish off when I ran out of nail polish remover - lol!

CARBONA dry cleaning fluid in a bottle ,don't know if its sold any more though.

acetone don't think the spelling correct but you get it from the chemist dead cheap no smell
