By PC Im guessing you mean WIndows?
Anyone can write something for Windows. That means there is more available, and more of it is free. On the other hand it means more "holes" (more security problems). Also everything can act very diffrently so it can mean more confusion in learning how to get things to work.

Mac is more controlled in how things work. Less learning curve but for most common uses there will be good programs to do it. And new items added almost always work great with very little messing with.

If you want to learn computers and grab new things to try every day, get a PC with Windows.

If its for Grandma who wants to do letters, spreadsheets, print some handouts, and some internet.. but doesnt want to "learn computers" then get a Mac.

Which ever floats your boat, man!

As for sharing files with everyone, Macs can share files with anyone. Word documents, jpegs, mp3s, .movs, .avis, Divx, Excel .xls files.
