somtimes you have to let go and hope for the best and this sucks as a dad of five i know what your feeling, but the one thing i know for sure is i own every thing in this house encluding what the children bought with the money i gave them. open the door to them running away but with only whats on their back and tell them when they come back it will all be right here waiting on them but there will be a new set of rules also that somes with coming back. they will be treated as an adult and will have to pay their way just like they would have to do in the real world. its tuff love and somtimes you have to give up or they will do it their way any how and you two will have a wedge between you. be strong and straight forward. good luck in this trying time you may need it .....

I live in az, my sister tried to do the same thing. The state does not recognize 16 year olds as being able to decide things for themselves. She can also be classified as a runaway if she does leave.

U need to try and teach her responsibility and accountability. If she goes, you MUST be strong enough to make her do it ALL on her own. Do not fall into the guilt traps and support her. Sit her down and talk to her in a non-confrontational mannner about the 'realities' in life. Whats her plan to deal with life issues like: money, jobs, education, bills? Is there any adult influence she looks up to (coach, counsellor, aunt, uncle, neighbor)? If yes, you might seek their support. In 2 words 'Tough Love'.

If she wants to go live w/her father, and he agrees, you should let her go but make sure that there are rules set before she goes. For example, once she leave, she has to live w/him for a year and finsishes school. She will soon learn that the 'grass is not always greener on the other side.'

Let her go live with Dad and let HIM deal with it for awhile...maybe that will be enough of a wake-up call for her! I'm curious as to what you mean by "wrong path"....is she involved with drugs? You can put her in a rehab....???
