I am a single mother w/2 daughters, 15 & 21. I work part-time as secretary at church, and full-time job graphic design. I also volunteer with the American Legion, local library board. I just cannot seem to find the time to get caught up with my chores at home (such as spring cleaning - it came and went). I need a month of vacation I think to get my house in order the way I want. But I don't have that much vacation to use. I would like some "my time" to relax and read and enjoy myself, but I'm afraid that will never happen. Both daughters work part-time, are in school & college. Just seem to be always on the run lately. HELP!!!

Maybe you can cut back on your volunteer hours. Soon YOU'LL be the one who needs volunteers!! Make a list of all the things you need to do...write each on a piece of paper, and put pieces in a jar. Set aside an hour or two a week for each of you, girls included. Then each of you pull out a piece of paper and do the chore. Then the one who does the chore the best (speed and accuracy counts) gets to buy themselves a treat...maybe a $10 item or so, whatever you can afford. For larger chores, you all pitch in and do it together. Family time...make it fun...go out for a treat for you all afterwards.

I'm a single mom of three girls who are with me half the time, and it's hard to get them motivated to help. I think the best thing is to set aside time with them to clean, then all go out for dinner to celebrate. Maybe do this once a week. Easier said than done, or course

OR find someone who you can team up with to clean your house then help her with her house. My ex mom in law and I have talked about doing this. Maybe a glass of wine if you like that. It's more fun to do things together. Then sit back with a book by yourself and enjoy the cleanliness.

Give your volunteer job a break and take care of your home. Also, no reason why you can't hand out specific small projects/chores to each of those girls to get accomplished.

You could always just... get off of the computer. Surely that would help a bit.

delegate the cleaning to your girls, at their age you shouldn't need to ask they should just do it
