the hardest part of getting an epidural is stitting up and not moving through the procedure. By the time you get the epidural, your contractions will be pretty close together, about 3-4 min. THe initial prick, you will feel a pinch, but they will talk you through it all the way. It take a couple minutes and you are done.
the capither, don't worry about that. I was actually more afraid for that and you do not feel a thing!!!!
Good luck!!!

Learn breathing techniques, they help. Yes, usually they do- to empty your bladder completely. Yes giving birth hurts but you'd be surprised what your body can accomplish. Gazing upon your son or daughter for the first time is a wonderful thing.Check with your hospital that you plan on using & see their rules about music. My best friend had her husband play a CD of relaxing songs while she was in the labor room. She listened to the songs & it helped. Having someone to just hold your hand through the contractions also helps.

Just think that a peridural may hurt a bit, but it will save you much more pain. About the catheter, you will not even feel it, actually if you will remember somebody in your labor it will be your anesthesiologist.
They bring relief in a situation that should be remembered entirely as one of the most beautiful moments of life.
Now, just relax and enjoy the pregnancy, is another wonderful experience that never repeats the same way.

an epidural doesn't hurt at all
but i have done both, had an epidural with 2 kids and my 3rd i elected to go natural
i have to say that the pain was immense, but recovery was a lot faster without....the epidural left me sleepy, numb & swolen all over....when i went natural i was up and walking and feeing normal, just a little sore, very shortly after birth.
as for the cath, i never had one
