Our founding fathers added that little line to our constitution to help our country. Would you really want someone who wasn't born here running things? It was a question of loyalty then, and is still that now. The feeling was then that if you were born here you would be more likely to do what was in the best interests of the people of the US, while if you were born somewhere else, you may be more likely to do as the leaders of the country you were born in wish you to do. Now, sure if you were born in some other country and have lived here for a long time or have become a citizen, you may feel like the United States is your country, but at some point your loyalty would come into question. It just makes sense that to be the leader of the United States, you must have been born a US citizen.

It is a Constitutional requirement. Perhaps the founders wanted to make sure the person running to be President of the US would be loyal to the US. Someone born in the US is more likely to have a stake in the future success of his/her homeland.

It's the law, but a law can always be changed by a required majority.
The last time somebody floated the idea was when some people still thought Arnold Schwarzenegger would make a good president.

You don't want a president that was born in another country because then he or she might have conflicts in choosing actions to beneift the USA vs the country he or she was born in.
