One of the biggest strengths of the internet is the fact that it scales very well. As the number of nodes increases, so do the routers and "super-nodes" as well. There are people whose sole purpose is to analyze network traffic patterns and figure out how to direct the flow.

During peak usage times (usually between 3PM and 10PM) you may experience higher latency. Latency is the amount of time it takes for a packet of information to reach a destination and get a response.

The slowdown isn't actually between the main hubs of the internet. They're connected by massive fiber optic cables capable of carrying Terabits of data every second. The slowdown usually occurs in the last few miles or so to the user's computer.

One of the biggest concerns with the growing number of internet devices is the shortage of IP addresses (eg 192.168.1.100) but this should be fixed with the adoption of IPv6, which carries a much larger range of addresses.

Yes. it may. All the IP addresses that are assigned to all those who are connected to the net (even your computer has one ) follow a set of rules and there are finite/limited IP addresses that can be assigned. Presently the no. of computers online are less than the maximum no. of IP addresses that can be there , but someday as you said it may become too crowded. But, by then the people in the IT industry must have surely figured ou t something.

no cuz, at the same time only half of the earth can xperience daytime.........maximum 57% of the earth's land area is either day or night at the same time cuz the earth is not perfectly spherical.
so it is impossible for the internet to get crowded until all the humans on earth take an oath to use the net at the same time.
(2) another reason is that each country has its own server for internet.......and it can only get crowded if all the ppl in 1 country use the same website.

like everyone else says..."It already is" and you can thank the damn spammers. The internet would run so much better if it were not for things like" Wanna hook up tonight" or "Enlarge your member" or "Need $1,000.00 today, reply requested"....It's that kind of cr*p that clogs the net....I hate spammers and think they are scum of the earth and hope they rot in hell.

I think that some sites become overcrowded, that's why they slow down some.
