Sandman. He's beyond mortality and not very interested in the redundant nature of mortal man. He can take over Hell just because he feels that Satan is an *** and the place needs to be run better. A truly three-dimensional character with a real sense of imortality. Fascinating.
Great question by the way!

The answer to this question and forever will be is Spider-Man. He seems more relatable. Just like when he started out, he didn't use his powers for crime fighting. He used it for profitt, went into wrestling. That's what I would have done, more than likely. But then he got a wake up call when a robber that he let go earlier killed his Uncle Ben. I just love the line--with great power comes great responsibility. Plus, he started out as a teenager. Any other superhero at that time was much older. If you were a teenage crime fighter, you were a side-kick. But Peter Parker was able to pull it off. Way to go Stan Lee and Romita Sr.!! And the Ultimate series is not bad either.

Superman. He's not a super hero that was 'chanced' to be one, like a lab accident, or a radio-active spider, or solar flares, and what not. He just is. I love all the irony in his character. The irony that his own homeplanet is his weakness. How the most powerful being on Earth can succumb to love for one woman. How his disguise is human, not masks, not costumes. How the only one who seems to want to save the people of Earth is the one who is not from it. Plus...he never lies.

I love the older comic books. The old Dennis the Menance, Little Dots, Archie, Casper , Wendy, Tales from the Crypt, I believe the little Devil's name was Hot Stuff. Those were classics! I hope to be able to get my hands on some of those. I had tons of them, but we ended up having to sell them. :( It sucked.

My favorite, and largest collection is DareDevil. The reason I like him is because he's a tragic hero. He sacrifices more than any other hero for life he chooses. 3 lost girlfriends, loss of business and livelihood, best friend. Furthermore, he is not revered for his actions, he merely does what he morally believes is right to do. Its much more complex a story line than many of the more powerful Supers.

I enjoyed the old X-Men/Wolverine writings from Chris Clairmont and Frank Miller - best one was the trip to japan, to defend his lady, mariko, against the corrupt leader of a ninja clan. X-men annual #11 wasn't bad either... both stories prove there's a lot of character underneath wolverine's berserker persona.
