a theme running through all of the books is that the source of voldemort's power is other people's fear of death.
lily potter was not afraid of death (or at least she was less afraid of her own death than she was of tom harming baby harry) and lilly's lack of fear caused voldemort's avada kedavra to rebound - scarring harry but almost killing the dark lord.
wormtail is desperately afraid of death - which is why he fell to the deatheaters so easily.
whenever harry has lost his own fear in his concern for the safety of others (cedric diggory, sirius black) he has been strongest in opposing the dark lord.
albus dumbledore has shown harry that death is not a thing to be afraid of. dumbledore has shown harry how when you stop worrying about your own safety you can achieve anything.
dumbledore will not come back from the dead in the seventh book - the way gandalf did.
resurrection is for sissies.

Yes, Dumbledore is indeed dead. He was blasted with the killing curse and fell of the astronomy tower. Come on people, did you read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince or not? I felt that the chapter about Dumbledore's funeral was written with such passion and closure.. It would be extremely cheap if J.K. Rowling were to come back in book seven and be like, "Gotcha, everyone! Dumbledore's alive and here do pilot Harry's adventure for him! Sorry for making all of you hardcore fans upset!" If Dumbledore were to come back in the last book of the series, I would be very disappointed. Harry needs to go out on his adventure by himself.
If you are not convinced, here are some other reasons:
1. If Dumbledore did not die, why didn't Snape from breaking the Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa Malfoy? Snape would die if he broke his promise to protect Draco. If Dumbledore were still alive, that would contradict Snape's vow.
2. What do you say about Dumbledore's portrait? J.K. Rowling specifically mentions a portrait of his being hung in the office with all the previous headmasters and headmistresses. In the Potterverse, they are only of dead people.
3. In an interview by Emerson Spartz and Melissa Anelli, J.K. Rowling responded to "The wise old wizard always dies," with "That's what I'm basically saying, yes." J.K. Rowling wouldn't lie to us. If she said he's dead, he's dead.
For those of you who believe that Dumbledore is alive, you may need to go back and do some re-reading.
Also, please read the link in my sources. It is an excellent essay about Dumbledore's death from leakynews.com.

Considering how the only (known) possible method of returning from death is Lord Voldemort's method and that has not been favorably presented as it is, I would say NO!
After all, if the return was possible on a regular basis, Harry would not be an orphan.

Hmm...I've wondered the same; here's my thing-did Dumbledore really die or was he put into some sort of death-like slumber so that it would appear he had died and allow Snape to seem as if he was really helping Voldemort?
I have a gut feeling however that he did die and that he knew he was going to die, which is why he had Harry follow him and why he told him about the horcruxes.

I'm not sure what she will do with this. I think that she killed him off in order to give Harry the incentive to kill Voldemort, but on the other I think that it might have been set up that Snape killed him at least, but I'm not sure if he really did kill him or if he will still be alive. I guess only J.K. Rowling knows for now.!

I think so. I feel it was all a fake to make Voldemort think his greatest enemy is gone so he and his gang will be more open. We will probably find out that there was some kind of spell that made him appear dead or some other magical hoax. Once he comes back, he will smite Voldemort.

He's dead. He died. Snape killed him. He is going to leave Harry a picture or something that talks to him and because of that, Harry WILL go back to Hogwarts for his last year. At the end of the book, Voldemort is going to kill Hagrid. Hagrid's death will give Harry the strength to kill Voldemort.

I don't think he will, at least not in the "Oh yeah, I'm alive again" sense. Maybe as a talking picture or whatever. But I think it would rock if Voldemort used his body as in Inferius--you know, the dead guys that can move around.

I think it could have been the drought of the livin death around the fake hocruxe but I think JKR has painted herself into a corner with 7 books, so she has to end it quick so it may not happen.
