This is St N's daughter responding - I'm a wine consultant. If you are not in a hurry to drink this wine, there is a corkscrew designed to specifically pull out corks in this type of situation. Unfortunately, you probably don't have it as very few people even in the wine industry have bothered to invest in one. It is referred to as a "saver corkscrew" and essentially it is a handle with two metal prongs coming out on either side of it pointing down. One of the metal prongs is slightly longer than the other and you put both prongs into the neck of the bottle and then twist while pulling up. It will get the cork out still intact and you can drink the wine.

I've included a link that shows a picture of this corkscrew so you know what you are looking for. You might be able to find this in a local wine shop or a local winery (if you have any). The link is:

If you can find it in a local shop, buy it and keep it. It's the best investment I have ever made. You can buy this one online from that link but it may take you a couple of weeks to get it. Hope this helps and hope you get to enjoy the wine.

Over a large glass tip the wine bottle upside down and with a sharp skewer stick the cork, then tip the bottle back and angle the cork out.

put the bottle in the freezer for 10 minutes, glass expands, cork retracts, take a 3 kg sledgehammer, smash bottle top, cork will come out instantly..... wine undrinkable... but that was not your question!!!!

push the cork the rest of the way in, then use a cheese colth or strainer to pour your wine thru, and you'll leave the cork pieces behind

Push it into the wine, then strain the wine into a decanter: use a coffee filter, if you have one; should remove the "taste" of the cork, as well...
